Proof and Wood’s The Representative Bourbon Crowned Best Bourbon and Tumblin’ Dice Single Barrel Bourbon named Best Single Barrel Bourbon at World Whiskies Awards 2023.

Louisville, KY – Proof and Wood, the prestigious American Independent Bottler named an Icon Of American Whiskey in 2022, has been awarded the Best Bourbon In The World and Best Single Barrel Bourbon in the World at the renowned World Whiskies Awards 2023.

The World Whiskies Awards are widely regarded as the ultimate accolade in the global spirits industry, and the competition is fierce. Over 1,000 whiskies from around the world were judged by a panel of industry experts, including master blenders, distillers, and journalists.

“We are honored to receive these awards and be recognized for our commitment to producing high-quality, high-value whiskies,” said Dave Schmier, founder and blender at Proof and Wood. “Winning the Best Bourbon and Best Single Barrel Bourbon awards is a testament to the hard work and passion that goes into every bottle.”

Proof and Wood’s winning bourbons were awarded the top prize in their respective categories, beating out established brands across the globe. The judges were impressed by the exceptional quality, complex flavors, and outstanding finish of the Proof and Wood whiskies.

As an independent bottler, Schmier is transparent about the practice of identifying the best distillate in the U.S. and the process of aging to perfection. “We currently source whiskey from all over the USA including IN, TN, KY, NC, CA, and CO.”

Proof and Wood’s bourbon and single barrel bourbon are both crafted using traditional techniques and the finest ingredients. The Representative bourbon is made from a mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley. The barrels were all sourced in Indiana and aged, blended, and bottled in Kentucky. The small batch consisted of various ages with none younger than four years of maturity in the barrel.

Two-time winner of Best Single Barrel Bourbon, Tumblin’ Dice Single Barrel, was distilled from a mash of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% barley and was aged for at least six years in American oak barrels, bottled at 117.6 proof giving it a rich, deep flavor perfect for sipping, pairing with a cigar, or making a luxurious cocktail.

Both Tumblin’ Dice Single Barrel and The Representative are available across the U.S. in 30 states with a retail prices of $65 and $55 a 750 mL, respectively. The Representative can also be found online at Reservebar.com

The awards are a significant achievement for Proof and Wood and a testament to the company’s commitment to quality and innovation. As the company continues to grow and expand its range of premium whiskies, it will continue to share its passion for exceptional whiskey with enthusiasts around the world.

ABOUT PROOF & WOOD VENTURES, INC.

At Proof & Wood Ventures, Inc., we invest in and develop spirits brands, and age our own spirits. Our core business is sourcing and bottling fine American whiskies, but we also import other high-quality spirits from around the world that were not available in the US previously. Founder Dave Schmier is delighted to be able to create both cocktail-friendly bottlings for value-focused bartenders and high-end collectors’ editions for connoisseurs.

“Our name comes from the two things we control as a blender and finisher of fine spirits, and the two things that are incredibly important to any spirit’s flavor: the proof it’s bottled at, and the wood of the barrel we age it in,” Schmier says. “That is who we are.”

ABOUT DAVE SCHMIER

Dave Schmier has a long history marketing and selling spirits. He was the founder and CEO of boutique beverage marketing agency Idea Foundation, winner of Reggie Awards for its work with Absolut Vodka and Alizé. Schmier’s first venture into tactually creating spirits was as owner of drinks consultancy Dynamic Beverages, LLC, which launched Orange V—one of the first flavored vodkas to use a certified-organic base spirit—in 2003. Its success (or lack thereof) led Schmier in 2010 to co-found Bardstown Barrel Selections, a merchant of carefully selected American whiskies. The company’s booming hit, Redemption Rye Whiskey, grew to sell 20,000 cases per year in less than five years, and resulted in the brand being acquired by spirits giant Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits in 2015.

With his years of experience and personal connections at distilleries, barrel makers and more, Schmier didn’t want to leave an industry he’d grown to love, so he founded Proof & Wood in 2015 . “I didn’t want to just sit back after BBS and Redemption Rye,” he says. “So I started a company to source not only great American whiskies but also other amazing booze from all over the globe.”

Schmier also founded the Independent Spirits Expo in 2005. The convention for small, craft liquor-makers, distributors, bartenders and others now holds annual events in Chicago, New York and Las Vegas.
