“I’m writing books to help increase literacy and speaking about my own past to help others heal from trauma and live lives they love,” Coleman says.

Through her uplifting and entertaining books, Coleman shares stories of inspirational protagonists who have the courage to remove masks, reveal who they are at their core, and acknowledge that people of color are indeed scarred, but healing gives them the validation they deserve in this world.

Her first book in the acclaimed series is I Have a Mayor Named Keisha!: Atlanta’s 60th Mayor. The captivating book honors Keisha Lance Bottoms, an African American woman who overcomes adversity, promotes equality for all, and preserves and maintains her dignity while caring for the citizens of Atlanta.

Other titles in the series include I Have a Mayor Named Keisha!: A Coloring Book About Atlanta’s 60th Mayor, I Have a Mayor Named Latoya: The Voice of Hope, and I Have a Mayor Named Latoya: The Voice of Hope Coloring Book. Every book has been carefully crafted to honor the accomplishments and character of its subjects while inviting young readers to learn about and from them.

She presents important and relevant topics in an enthusiastic and engaging manner that children can identify with, relate to, and learn from. Her Brown Girl Resilience Book Collection is the natural outcome of her love for teaching and helping others.

Coleman puts it this way: “While society magnifies our scars through some forms of media, entertainment, and various organized systems, people of color have used these occurrences as tools of resilience and motivation. With these stories, may our minds and souls create conscious narratives that acknowledge where we presently are and continue for generations to come and experience what we all desire — to just be human!”
